CENTRE BASED RIDE LOGISTICS

A brief itinerary for one of our centre based tours.

Transfers from the airport to our base in the Alpujarras from Granada or Malaga airport. Stop off for lunch on the coast ( Malaga arrivals ) before continuing the journey to Sierra Nevada. Arrive at base in village of Fondales, south facing slopes of Sierra Nevada with spectacular views of the Trevelez gorge. Build bikes then relax by pool watching the sun set.

With nearly twenty years of exploratory knowledge in the area, we prefer not to run a fixed itinerary , instead relying on planning your daily routes choosing from our vast route portfolio , taking into account the mood of the group , weather conditions, seasons etc.

In the warmer season tending to head for the higher altitude routes , concentrating on the lower ' Contraviesa' valley where the climate is more stable in the winter season .

Wherever possible two guides per group with radio communication keeping rides flowing without the need for constant regrouping at junctions or waiting for problems with mechanicals etc. The 'sweeper' guide will be on hand to aid with mechanicals/punctures , directions and friendly banter.

Most of your rides will be lift assisted with some climbing necessary to link more remote sections of trail .

Along with having fun on the challenging  daily routes, a ride needs a purpose and part of yours will be to sample the ambience and fantastic  choice of local gastronomic delights available in the mountain village retreats we have pre booked for your lunchtime pit stops . Afterwards relax, digest the food and atmosphere, no rush ,your on holiday . Batteries fully recharged for the afternoon leg of the tour.

Daily ride averages somewhere in the region of 300/900m of ascending, 1000/2000m of descending over 30/45km with one full on gravity assist day ( you could take your chain off ), five separate descents of approx 2500m accumulative over 25km.

In regards to its topographic geography and trail layout , the Alpujarras has been described as ' the Tibet of Europe ' .  With a labyrinth of medieval trails clinging to the steep sided gorges and surrounding valleys , it is of a totally rural setting ,with the Mediterranean climate making it an idyllic base for year round mountain bike adventures . We are here to show you how to get the very best out of your holiday .
