Sierra Nevada Limite 2006

Ciclomontana winners of the Sierra Nevada 'Limite' 4th edition Enduro team award in 06.

Congratulations to all of the riders and support crew that teamed up with us for the 06 Enduro.

Some riders coincided their holiday with us arriving either side of the event and some made it a long week end. Thought to be one of the toughest one day enduro events Spain has to offer, the organisation was first class with well manned control points and food/water stations.

Although the start was predominately downhill for 55km, with almost half on singletrack, the start prologue took us on a mini vuelta climb in to the ski resort of Pradollano just to stretch out the 740 starters before turning back in and joining the bottom of the ski piste.

We lost one of our Irish elite riders James McClusky when his bike caught one of the rain bars at the end of the ski piste heading out of the resort to the main descent, his wheel and forks disintegrated.

2200m.of descending  towards the centre of Granada ( 670m), great fun on a mixture of terrain and sketchy loose trail surfaces through farms, villages and control points. A great reception from the waiting spectators in the centre, before turning our backs on the Alhambra Palace and Granada, heading towards the mighty 55km climb that will take us back to the finish in Pradollano.

The challenging climb towards Guejar Sierra is a mixture of single and double track but psychologically punishing as we frequently lose the altitude we had worked hard to achieve moments earlier. With cramp setting in now for most mortals and commencing the appropriately named last climb ' the riders cemetery ' in Guejar Sierra, it is almost a welcome sight until you spot a 22km distance to the finish marker.

With an average 1:7 gradient, it is now just a matter of survival to the finish which seems to take forever and with every pedal stroke hurting more and more approaching the last control point with the ski resort finish  in the nearby distance is almost euphoric, even when your body is crying ''no more''.
